User Personas

Week 5

User Personas are artificial user represented as real users for us to reference through our creative process to inform and validate our design and experience. The persons are made through research, interviews and statistics. The personas are captured in a page description that include behaviour patterns, skills, gaols, attitudes along with fictional details making them more real. There should always be one primary person for you to frame your site around.

Questions to ask

  • What are the tasks your users are trying to preform?
  • Are there different tasks for different personas?
  • What devices are they using?
  • Are users coming in for that one item?
  • Are they coming to your site because they trust your page?
  • Is it task and user dependent?

Artefact Personas

Is to apply personas to the artefact (to the product) as a way of thinking about the proposed visual design of the product and what it communicates.

Questions to ask

  • If the interface were a person, what would she or he be like?
  • How would you expect users to react when they first view the product?
  • How would you describe this product to a friend?
  • How is the product different from competitive products?
  • Which celebrity (or car, movie, etc,) is the product most like?

The importance of User personas and Artefact personas is without mapping them out before constructing the project you will create something unintended without the original and main ideas that you intended to convey. This will result in incorrect brand messages and will lead to more work.
